Four young Suffolk men and two Dutch Marines arrived Wednesday afternoon at Sizewell beach in a recreation of the original 32 young Dutchmen who tried to escape to England by kayak during World War II to join the allied forces. Only eight of the original kayakers made it. It is therefore not surprising that during the second night three of the Suffolk boys had to retire due to sheer exhaustion. However Olly Hicks and the two Dutch Marines together with the other team members made a triumphant return having rowed non-stop for 43 hours. Prince Harry joined well-wishes, family and friends awaiting the arrival of the team.

The team, made up of Alec Greenwell, Ed Cooper, Harry Franks and Olly Hicks in single kayaks, all from East Suffolk, and two Dutch Marines Chiel van Bakel and Ben Stoel in a double kayak, left Katwijk in Holland at 11.00 pm on Monday 22nd.
